Selvage Quilts?

I'm a big fan of string quilting because I hate to throw away even the smallest scraps. One of my ongoing projects is Bonnie Hunter's Basket-Weave Strings quilt. But I never imagined that you could do much of anything with the woven selvage edges that we cut off fabric before we start cutting out our quilt pieces. Though they are technically strings, usually they're too narrow to use because a quarter inch seam on each side eats them up entirely.

Well, Karen Giska has figured out a technique that makes selvages usuable. Check it out here.

I'm glad you found SelvageQuilts.com! Selvage quilts are surprisingly fun to make and fun to read. I have been particularly tickled to hear from quilters from all over the world including Norway, New Zealand, and Hong Kong. I know there are quilters all over the world, but with the Internet we can chat like neighbors!
In three months over 10,000 people have visited the site! How do we get any quilts made when we spend all that time on the computer? :)
Mark Lipinski of Quilter's Home magazine just finished the foreword to my new book and it is so good! Take a look at "Quilts from the Selvage Edge" (pub. by American Quilter's Society) in April. If you make a selvage quilt, please email me a photo and I will exhibit it on the Gallery page.
I love both your blogs.
Thanks for mentioning me in your blog.
Best wishes to you.

I can't seem to leave your blogs! I keep finding interesting entries to read. I have seen shirts out in public that I would really like to use in a quilt. And I love the apron entry, too. I may have to start wearing my selvage apron. (In Workshop #2 on the site, you can see my little niece Amelia wearing it.)

May I link to your blog on SelvageQuilts.com?
