Repulsive Fabric

Bonnie Hunter has been urging us not to confine ourselves to bland and safe fabric choices as we string piece our Step 3 blocks. As long as a fabric has a white, cream, or even beige background, it counts as a neutral.

And to encourage us to loosen up, she suggested that we post our weirdest neutrals. I figured mine were too mundane to post -- until tonight. What was I thinking when I bought this? Eeeeeuw!

I hate house flies.

So I lost no time in attacking them with a rotary cutter, and now those little vermin are in 1.5 inch strips. I hope they won't make my quilt look too unsavory, but at least they're out of my stash.

WOW! Where did you ever get ahold of House fly fabric? I can't believe someone actually designed that! LOL!

Looks like it's a reproduction of a 19th-century "conversational" print. I agree that it's not very appealing!

LOL, yes it´s not on top of the buying list but it would be shame to strip it all. Kep a little bit if you make an I Spy quilt it would be perfect.

OK, you win. That is absolutely bizarre! I have used fabic with a bee design, but they were cute cartoon-y bees, not really realistic insects! When I pull something strange out of my stash closet I try to remember where my head was that day when I bought it! When that fabric is cut up, no one will recognize what it was, but you will know and get a laugh out of it.

I agree....you win! Cut it small and get rid of it.

Thanks, guys. Glad you all enjoyed seeing it.

No, I didn't strip it all -- there was a whole yard of it! Good suggestion to use some in an I Spy quilt. Might also be good in an alphabet quilt. ("F" is for Fly...)

Yes, I got it ages ago with some other conversational prints. I remember parrots, tops, cats, dogs, etc. Some of those are going in this quilt too.

LOL...when I followed your link from the Quiltville Chat post, I figured I'd be looking at some "eww" fabric.....

but you're right....this is one that could flat-out turn your stomach! ;0)

Great one for stripping to 1.5"

Hey QB! Not so fast my friend. I may have topped your ugly fly fabric...my ugly fly fabric is arguably uglier than yours. Yep, I have fly fabric too...and it's pretty creepy. ~~Lisa

Okay, Lisa. I want to see your fabric. Have you posted it somewhere? (Believe me, I'm quite willing to give up the title of Queen of the Uglies!)

OH yes...I think you win! It will be fun for your descendants to look at and wonder about!
Congratulations!
